Abstract: Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) can be used to establish on-demand decentralized network environment when no other fixed infrastructure is prevailing. But, due to the decentralized nature of MANETs, it is hard to implement security giving Confidentiality, Integrity and Authenticity to the network. In order to address this issue, authors will discuss about the feasibility of providing Authentication through network layer using Challenge-Response based architecture which will provide secure communication over shared wireless media. The applicability of concepts such as VPN, Key Sharing and Cryptography to MANETs has also been discussed in order to provide additional security providing Integrity and Confidentiality to the Network. Finally, a statistical analysis has been done to analyse the performance of the proposed Solution.
