Abstract: The Intelligent Wheelchair is a technical semiautonomous wheelchair developed as a solution for problems associated with traditional wheelchairs. It enables a user to use the wheelchair by himself without the aid of another person, irrespective of his form of disability or physical condition. The human effort required for wheelchair operation is greatly minimized as the user will be able to control the wheelchair simply by moving a joystick or by issuing voice commands. Automated obstacle detection and avoidance provides the users with enhanced security. The users are also facilitated with wireless communication for emergency situations. The Intelligent wheelchair is developed as a low cost embedded system and does not require a plugged in laptop or computer. Hence, it proves to be the ideal solution for the physically disabled
